A Glimpse of Vigan's History

Living the Legacy of Vigan

When I visited the Heritage City of Vigan, I was amazed by how the city looked like it came straight out of history books. One of the most famous places there is Calle Crisologo, a street full of old Spanish houses and cobblestone roads. The vibe of the place is so peaceful and beautiful that it makes you feel like you’re back in the Spanish era. It’s really one of those spots that show how rich and preserved the culture of Vigan is.

Calle Crisologo is such a beautiful place to walk around. You can see kalesas (horse-drawn carriages) passing by, people taking pictures, and shops selling souvenirs, antiques, and handmade crafts. At night, the street lights make everything glow, and the whole place feels magical. What makes it more special is that even though it’s very historical, it’s still full of life and color. You can really see how the people of Vigan value their traditions and keep them alive.

One thing I will never forget about my visit is tasting the Vigan empanada. It’s one of the city’s most famous local products, and it’s honestly so good! It’s crispy on the outside and filled with egg, longganisa, and vegetables inside. I even watched how they made it — from preparing the dough to frying it fresh right in front of you. Eating Vigan empanada while walking down Calle Crisologo made the experience even better. It felt like I was enjoying not just the food, but also the culture and history that came with it.

My visit to Vigan, especially Calle Crisologo, was such a memorable experience. The beauty of the place, the friendliness of the locals, and the taste of their famous empanada really showed me what makes Vigan special. I realized that supporting local products and appreciating our heritage helps keep our culture alive. Vigan truly deserves to be called a Heritage City because it reminds us how important it is to preserve our traditions and be proud of them.

A Though but Meaningful Quarter

 My Second Quarter Journey

This Second Quarter has been full of lessons and realizations for me. I learned a lot from our subjects and discovered new ways to understand things better. I also realized how important it is to manage my time and stay organized so I can finish my schoolwork properly. Working with my classmates taught me teamwork and patience, and it made learning more meaningful. Even though it wasn’t always easy, I’m thankful for the new knowledge and experiences I gained.

________________________________________________________________________________

There were many challenges I faced this quarter, and one of the hardest was when I lost a member of my family. It was such a painful moment, and it really affected me emotionally. I couldn’t focus on my studies for some time because my mind was filled with sadness and worry. Every time I tried to study or do my school tasks, I would suddenly remember what happened, and it made it hard for me to concentrate. I felt like I didn’t have the same energy or motivation as before. There were also times when deadlines came all at once, and I struggled to keep up.

Balancing my emotions while trying to stay active in class was really difficult. It was one of those moments when I realized that even though school is important, taking care of myself and my feelings also matters.

To overcome these challenges, I tried to take things slowly and give myself time to heal. I talked to my friends and family who comforted me, and that really helped. I also reminded myself that my loved one would want me to keep going and do my best. I started managing my time better and tried to catch up on what I missed. Little by little, I was able to focus again and continue working hard for school. Even though it was tough, I learned to be stronger and more understanding of myself during difficult times.

As I move forward, I will continue to stay strong and do my best in everything I do. I want to improve more, especially in staying focused and managing my emotions. I will also treasure the lessons I learned, not just from school but from my personal experiences. I know that life can be hard sometimes, but I’ll keep trying and never give up on my goals. :)

Through It All

                             Resilient Hearts

Climate change has become one of the greatest challenges of our time, and its impact is deeply felt here in the Philippines. From unpredictable weather to stronger typhoons and long periods of drought, it’s clear that our environment is changing fast. These sudden and progressive changes affect not only our surroundings but also the lives and livelihoods of many Filipinos. People in coastal and rural areas suffer the most, as floods, rising sea levels, and landslides destroy homes, crops, and sources of income.

One of the main reasons for this worsening condition is human activity. Deforestation, pollution, and the continuous burning of fossil fuels have greatly harmed the planet. Factories and vehicles release harmful gases that trap heat in the atmosphere, causing temperatures to rise. When forests are cut down, the land loses its natural protection against floods and erosion. Sadly, many of these actions are driven by neglect or greed, and the environment pays the price.

Yet, despite these struggles, Filipinos have always shown resilience. After every storm or disaster, communities come together to help one another, rebuild homes, and start again with hope. This spirit of unity and faith has always been our strength. But being resilient should not mean we keep suffering through the same problems.

We must also learn to act—by protecting nature, lessening waste, and supporting projects that promote sustainability. Small acts, when done together, can create a lasting change.

Climate change is real, and its effects are already part of our daily lives. It reminds us that the earth needs care, and that every choice we make matters. If we continue to turn a blind eye, future generations may no longer have the same world we have now. But if we choose awareness, discipline, and compassion, we can build a future where both people and nature thrive together.

Science Month 2025

The theme of this year’s National Science Month, “Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation,” highlights how science is more than just discoveries in a lab—it’s about using those discoveries to build a better future. The unknown is always there, but instead of seeing it as something frightening, this theme encourages us to see it as a space full of possibilities waiting to be explored.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Science and society are closely connected because one cannot progress without the other. Science gives society the tools and knowledge to face challenges like climate change, health issues, and the demand for sustainable energy. On the other hand, society provides the purpose for these scientific efforts, guiding where innovation should be applied and why it matters. This balance is what keeps progress meaningful.

Looking at the future, science will continue to shape the way we live, work, and interact. New technologies will change education, healthcare, communication, and even how we care for the environment. But it’s also important that these changes are guided by values like fairness and responsibility. Innovation must serve everyone, not just a few, so no one is left behind as the world advances.

In the end, the theme reminds us that the future depends on how we use both knowledge and compassion. Science can give us the power to explore the unknown, but society must decide how to use that power wisely. If we work together—curious, responsible, and united—we can truly create a future where science and innovation uplift everyone.

The Light That Guides My Path

A Teacher's Worth

Teachers play a big role in shaping who we are and who we will become. The theme of this year’s Teacher’s Month Celebration, “My Teacher, My Hero,” reminds us of how teachers go beyond their duties — guiding, inspiring, and supporting us not only in academics but also in life. They are the silent heroes who continue to light the path of learning, even when the challenges seem too heavy to carry.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Teachers are one of the biggest reasons why students keep moving forward. They guide us when we feel lost, remind us to do our best, and believe in us even when we start to doubt ourselves. Their effort often goes unseen, but every lesson, every reminder, and every bit of patience they show means so much. They don’t just teach what’s in the book — they teach us how to handle life, how to be kind, and how to keep trying no matter what. A teacher’s care stays with you even outside the classroom, and that’s what makes them real heroes in our lives.

I’ve learned that being a teacher is not just about teaching lessons from books, but also about touching hearts and changing lives. Every day, they show patience, understanding, and care that make students feel seen and valued. Their sacrifices, like staying up late to check our works or finding new ways to make learning meaningful, show their true dedication. Because of them, we learn to dream bigger and believe in ourselves.

As a student, I express my gratitude and respect by doing my best in class, listening attentively, and showing kindness and respect. A simple “thank you” or even a heartfelt note can mean a lot to our teachers. Because I believe that the best way to honor them is to apply the lessons they’ve taught us — not only in school but also in real life.

Teachers are truly heroes in every sense. They may not wear capes, but their impact lasts a lifetime. Their love for teaching continues to shape the future generation, and for that, they deserve endless appreciation and respect.

 THANK YOU, TEACHERS.
